Claremont, Calif. (December 8, 2009) — Pitzer College student Christopher Young ’11 received a Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to participate in a semester-long Pitzer Exchange Study at the University of Koblenz-Landau in Germany.
Young is a New Resources student majoring in international environmental policy.
“I am excited by this opportunity to study environmental policy and the European Union while abroad. I am very grateful to Pitzer and the Study Abroad Office for making this possible,” said Young.
Pitzer College offers four semester programs, two summer programs, 33 international exchange programs and 14 domestic exchange programs. Over 60% percent of Pitzer students study abroad compared to under two percent nationally. Most recently, the Pitzer’s Study Abroad Program was recognized as an outstanding academic program in US News and World Report’s 2010 America’s Best Colleges.
About Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
The Gilman Scholarship Program awards US undergraduate students Federal Pell Grant funding recipients at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. The program is sponsored by the US Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education.
