Documentary Film by Pitzer College Alumni Wins Accolade Award

Claremont, Calif. (November 17, 2009) — Pitzer College alums Austin Brawner ’09, Magee Clegg ’09 and Miles McAplin ’09 received the Award of Merit by The Accolade for their documentary film, A Box with a View.

Filmed in southern India during the summer of 2008, the 22-minute documentary examines the influence of cable television on the culture and traditions of rice villages in the Kerala Backwaters. The documentary presents the issue through the voices of the people living in the community.

The film was also nominated for a 2009 Best International Documentary in the Queens International Film Festival.

Brawner, the producer, earned an economics degree at Pitzer and is on a Fulbright Scholarship teaching English at Macau University. Director/producer Clegg, who graduated with a degree in media studies, is currently filming his second documentary Rice Is Life in the Philippines through a Fulbright Fellowship. McAlpin, the director of photography, an environmental studies major, now resides in Boston and is pursuing other film projects.
