Pitzer #1 Nationwide in Fulbright Fellowships per Thousand

Claremont, Calif. (October 26, 2009) – In 2009, Pitzer College was awarded more Fulbright Fellowships per thousand than any other college or university in the US.

Pitzer College students and alums were awarded 14 Fulbright Fellowships per thousand in 2009. Rounding out the top five in per capita Fulbrights are New College of Florida (10.2), Pomona (9.9), Scripps (9.4) and Swarthmore (6.7).

Pitzer College 2009 Fulbright Fellows are researching and teaching in Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines and South Korea.

Ninety-three percent of Pitzer’s 2009 Fulbright Fellows studied abroad. Of the Pitzer 2009 graduating class, 72% studied abroad, compared to under 2% nationally.

Pitzer’s success in the 2009 Fulbright competition follows strong showings throughout the decade—Pitzer College has received more Fulbright Fellowships per thousand students than any other college or university in the US for six of the last seven years.
