Claremont, Calif. (May 5, 2009) – Pitzer College congratulates Francine Mireles ’09, who has been awarded a Fulbright Fellowship, a Critical Language Enhancement Award and a Hyogo Earthquake Memorial Research Scholarship.
Mireles is a major in East Asian cultural studies. While at Pitzer, she studied abroad with Pitzer in China and Pitzer Summer Study in Japan.
The Fulbright Fellowship Program is a program of the US Department of State and supports binational partnership through the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills.
The Critical Language Scholarship Program is part of the National Security Language Initiative, a US federal government effort to expand the number of Americans mastering critical-need foreign languages.
The Hyogo International Summer School will focus on the role of local governments and citizens toward the formation of a framework of cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region around issues of human security and multicultural symbiosis.
