Pitzer College Senior Wins Critical Language Enhancement Award

Claremont, Calif. (March 20, 2009) — Pitzer College congratulates Owen Brewer ’09, recipient of a 2009 Critical Language Scholarship from the U.S. Department of State.

Brewer, an international & intercultural studies and romance languages double major, will participate in a Hindi intensive summer language institute. While at Pitzer, Brewer studied abroad in China. Seventy-two percent of Pitzer students study abroad, compared to under 2% nationwide.

The Critical Language Scholarship Program is part of the National Security Language Initiative, a U.S. federal government effort to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering critical-need foreign languages.
