Pitzer College Football Players Named to SCIAC All-Academic Football Team

Claremont, Calif. (March 20, 2009) – Pitzer College student-athletes Jacob Caron ’11, Steven Collisson ’12, Robert Montalvo ’10, Russell Oka ’10 and Andrew Russell ’09 were named to the 2008-2009 Sothern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) All-Academic Football Team.

“We are proud of the accomplishments of our athletes on and off the field and this particular award is held in high esteem by both the athletes and the Colleges,” said Roger Coran, Sagehen Head Football Coach.

To be eligible for this honor, the student-athletes must have a GPA of 3.2 or better and prove to be a strong contributor to their team.

“Jacob, Steven, Robert, Russell and Andrew show that great athletes can also great academics,” said President Laura Skandera Trombley, “Pitzer is proud to nurture this balance of academic and athletic excellence.”

About the Pitzer-Pomona Sagehens

Pitzer College joins with Pomona College in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Sagehen teams include soccer, basketball, football, baseball, track & field, golf, tennis, water polo, swimming and diving. Pitzer students also participate in the Claremont Colleges club sports programs that compete nationally.

Pitzer College joins with Pomona College to field 21 varsity teams – The Sagehens – that compete in Division III NCAA athletics and as members of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).
