Author, Intellectual Icon Christopher Hitchens to Speak at Pitzer College

Claremont, Calif. (October 31, 2008) – Christopher Hitchens, one of the most well-known and controversial modern writers, will speak at Pitzer College as part of its student-run Dining with Democracy lecture series.

Hitchens’ lecture will begin at 7 pm in the Gold Student Center Multipurpose Room on the Pitzer College campus. For more details, visit www.pitzer.edu/dwd or email [email protected]. The event is free and open to members of the Claremont College community.

Christopher Hitchens has appeared on every major news and political television show offering his opinions on political and social issues.

He has contributed to Vanity FairThe NationSlate, the New York Review of Books, the London Review of Books, the New York Times Book Review, the Los Angeles Times Book Review and the Atlantic Monthly, among many other publications.

As foreign correspondent and travel writer, Hitchens has written from more than 60 countries on all five continents. Hitchens’ essays and articles have been collected and anthologized many times over.

Hitchens was born in Portsmouth, England and educated at The Leys School in Cambridge and Balliol College, Oxford. He holds an honors degree in philosophy, politics and economics. Hitchens emigrated to the United States in 1981 and became an American citizen in 2007.
