Ralph Nader to Speak at Pitzer College October 25

Inaugural Event of Dining with Democracy Speaker Series

Dining with Democracy is a new lecture series aimed at bringing today’s leaders to Pitzer to inspire tomorrow’s leaders. Integral to the program is the discussion following the lecture with a small group of students, faculty, and staff over a meal at the Grove House.

Claremont, Calif. (October 12, 2006) – Consumer advocate, lawyer, author, and 2000 presidential candidate Ralph Nader will speak at Pitzer College at 7 p.m. in Bridges Auditorium located at the Claremont Colleges, 4th St & College Way.

The Nader talk will serve as the inaugural event of a new speaker symposium series established by Pitzer senior Nick Kislinger. “I set out to establish a forum in which students could be exposed to discussions with prominent politicians at both the local and state levels. Following talks that are open to a general audience, a small group of students, faculty and staff will meet and discuss politics over dinner with the invited guest. The more intimate dinner setting will provide an excellent opportunity for members of the Pitzer community to exchange thoughts and ideas with the politicians,” Kislinger explained.

“I transferred to Pitzer College after a discussion with a member of the Board of Trustees about the core values of the institution. I was drawn to the College’s feeling of equality and community,” Kislinger said. The openness of the community led to Kislinger’s idea to provide a venue for meaningful political discussions.

Nader’s talk is expected to focus on political issues related to terrorism, tensions in Iraq, environmentalism, the legalization of marijuana, and the Green Party.

Nader’s talk is open to the public. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets may be purchased at Ticketmaster and Pitzer College’s Gold Center Service Desk, as well as at the door. For additional information, contact the Office of Students Affairs at (909) 621-8241.
