Dancer/Choreographer Bill T. Jones to Appear at Pitzer College

Claremont, Calif. (Feb. 21, 2003) — Bill T. Jones, dance artist, choreographer, social intellectual and iconoclast will present a lecture/demonstration at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 in Avery Auditorium on the Pitzer campus. The event is free and open to the public.

A MacArthur “genius grant” recipient, Jones has performed and choreographed for dance companies around the world. His television credits include PBS’ “Great Performances” series, CBS Sunday Morning, and the PBS/Bill Moyers interview “Still/Here,” among others. In addition to his MacArthur fellowship, in 1981, 1982 and 1983 he received NEA fellowships for the choreographic arts. In 2000 the Dance Heritage Coalition named Mr. Jones “an irreplaceable national treasure.” He holds honorary doctorates from the Chicago Art Institute, the Julliard School and Swarthmore College.
