Cap and Gown Information

For Students

The white gown, orange hood (cowl), white tassel and white mortarboard were designed by the first graduating class in 1965, which consisted of three women. The regalia is the same today, with the exception of an orange tassel instead of white. The use of orange was inspired by the orange tree in the Pitzer seal, chosen to honor Pitzer’s founder, Russell K. Pitzer, a prominent California citrus grower and philanthropist.

Graduating seniors must submit measurements for their caps and gowns by March 13, 2020. Seniors should visit Scott Hall 120 (M–F from 8 to 5 pm) and get their measurements taken there. The deadline for submitting measurements is March 13, 2020. If you need assistance, please contact the Office of Student Affairs at ext. 18241 or 909.621.8241. Please fill out the online form by March 13, 2020.
