HIGHLIGHTS

In Spring 2022 students from several STEM courses were partnered with community organizations in support of urgent matters in our community.

Students in Professor Pete Chandrangsu’s course worked with the Latino/Latina Roundtable of Pomona and San Gabriel Valley on a series of discussions on the role science in understanding health and wellness during the pandemic and beyond.

Students in Professors Ethan Van Arnem, Jason Tor (Integrated Biology and Chemistry), and Katie Purvis Robert’s (Advanced Chemistry) partnered with the Robert Redford Conversancy, CASA Pitzer, and the CEC to support the Adelanto Water Project and the initiatives of Councilmember Evans and local organizations (ICIJ and El Sol).

MEET OUR STUDENT TEAM

ANNIE VOSS, PZ’26 | PUBLIC HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
Annie is an assistant for the Research and Funding pillar. She is also Student Director for Sugar Bush Foundation and a member of Garden Club. When she isn’t chasing the Pitzer chickens through the compost, you can probably catch her laying out on the mounds or working in her capacity as Alumni-Board Representative for Student Senate. She also enjoys making her own Monday night snackie with friends, and competing for the best hammock spot on campus.

NATHAN CHABIN, PZ’25 | NEUROSCIENCE AND SPANISH
Nathan believes that community-based research is a powerful tool that can be used to better society. There are many investigative tools that are effective in uncovering societal issues and can be used to encourage social reform. Through work with community partners, the Research and Fundraising pillar is dedicated to using research techniques to better our communities. Since joining this pillar, Nathan has learned about many community partners and ways to assist them in their respective projects. In his free time, Nathan loves to watch and play sports with his friends, learn about dinosaurs, and cook!
