Career Discovery Campus Special: Pitzer College Art Gallery Student Apprenticeship

Join us for a conversation with Diego Borgsdorf Fuenzalida’24 and Pitzer College Art Galleries Assistant Director Christopher Michno’91 to learn about the Godsill’00 Burns Apprenticeship Award for First Gen and Students of Color.

Diego Borgsdorf Fuenzalida was awarded a Godsill Burns Apprenticeship in Spring 2023 and completed his curatorial apprenticeship with Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE) in Hollywood. He worked on a variety of exhibition and archive projects during his apprenticeship with LACE.

Every fall, Career Services hosts the On-Campus Job Fair, held inside this year at the Gold Student Center Multipurpose Room on Thursday, August 31 from 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.  Representatives from Pitzer College and The Claremont Colleges are in attendance to speak with you about available on-campus job opportunities (including those at some Claremont Colleges Services offices). Judith Matloff is on the faculty of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. She has trailblazed safety training for women and media organizations around the world, helping hundreds of journalists survive an increasingly dangerous world.

Over 40 years as a journalist, she has covered top international stories including Rwanda’s genocide, apartheid and the rise of Vladimir Putin. Her essays have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Forbes, the Financial Times, The Los Angeles Times and The Wall Street Journal. Earlier in her career, Matloff headed the Moscow and Africa bureaus of the Christian Science Monitor and she spent a decade reporting for Reuters from various countries.

Matloff’s latest book, How to Drag a Body and Other Safety Tips You Hope to Never Need, shares expert advice for nearly every conceivable peril. She earlier published No Friends but the Mountains, which drew a link between geography and conflict; Fragments of a Forgotten War, about Angola’s civil war; and Home Girl, which chronicled a Harlem street run by a drug gang.

Alex studied Mathematical Economics at Pitzer College where they graduated in 2018. Since then, Alex has worked at two companies, Caesars Entertainment and ProcureAbility. In 2022, Alex graduated from UC Berkeley School of Information with a Master’s in Information and Data Science (MIDS). As of January 2023, Alex has been promoted to a Data Scientist at their company where they leverage statistics, computer science, and critical thinking to answer all the company’s data questions. Alex’s ambitions and goal are leading towards greater data science endeavors where one day they’d like to submerge myself into the world of NLP, ML, and Conversational A.I.
