Campus Plant Identification – Phase II

Phase II consists of the gardens and courtyards of West and East Halls, completed in 2012.

Phase I refers to the gardens and courtyards of Pitzer-Atherton-Sanborn Residence Halls, opened in 2007.

Campus Plant Identification – Mead Hall

The plantings around Mead Hall include the areas on all sides of Mead Hall, the front entrance, the central courtyard, and the patio that CAPAS, the Writing Center and Communications share.

Campus Plant Identification – McConnell Center

The areas include the strip on the east side sidewalk between McConnell Center and the Holden Garden, the east patio and the west side of McConnell Center.

Campus Plant Identification – Holden Garden

The Holden Garden occupies the footprint of Holden Hall, built in 1965 and demolished in 2014. This beautiful temporary garden now fills the space.

Campus Plant Identification – Grove House

The Grove House gardens are the oldest part of the arboretum. The area surrounds the Grove House and Outdoor Classroom and includes several gardens including the Ellsworth Garden named after former President Frank Ellsworth, the Eunice Pitzer Wildflower Garden and the organic garden behind the Grove House, complete with fruit trees and chicken coop.

Campus Plant Identification – Bernard Hall, Broad Center, Rodman Range and the Strip

This area includes the area northwest of Bernard Hall, the Intercultural Garden behind Broad Center, the Rodman Range which is the area north of Brant Field and the Strip, the area between the Pitzer and Harvey Mudd campuses.

Campus Plant Identification – Avery Hall and Benson Auditorium

This area includes the area on the east side of Avery Hall, the large rock planter on the south side of Benson Auditorium and the area in front of Benson Auditorium.
