TOEFL or IELTS Waiver Request

Pitzer requires the demonstration of English proficiency from students whose native language is not English. This must be done by:

  • Submitting the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) IBT or the IBT Special Home Edition.
  • Or submitting the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
  • Or submitting the DuoLingo (DET)
  • Or submitting and being granted an English Language Test Waiver

Fill out the online Pitzer English Language Test Waiver form.
This form will ask for your name, date of birth, and reason for requesting a waiver. You will also be asked to upload a PDF copy of evidence of your English language proficiency, such as English Proficiency tests, a graded research paper or other writing assignment done in high school that demonstrates your writing ability. Examples include: ACT, ACTFL oral proficiency interview, AP Language and Composition score, AP Literature and Composition score, International Baccalaureate exam score, Cambridge English Exam, Pearson Test of English – Academic, Duolingo (DET), paper-based TOEFL and/or SAT.

You may also be required to sit for a video interview with members of the Pitzer Enrollment Team.

You should hear back from the Pitzer Enrollment Team within 3-5 business days of submitting your initial request. Please note that all waiver requests are considered on a case-by-case basis, and not all waiver requests may be granted.

Who will conduct my interview?

If deemed necessary by the Pitzer Enrollment Team, your Skype interview will be conducted by a member of the Pitzer Office of International Programs. The interviewer will ask you questions about your academic preparation and interest in Pitzer. Please note that prospective students may only interview once.
