Pitzer requires the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) from students whose native language is not English.
If you have been enrolled in an English-speaking curriculum for at least 4 years, you may request to have the English language testing requirement waived.
Fill out the online Pitzer English Language Test Waiver form.
This form will ask for your name, date of birth, and reason for requesting a waiver. You will also be asked to upload a PDF copy of a graded research paper or other writing assignment done in high school that demonstrates your writing ability. You may also be required to sit for a Skype interview with members of the Pitzer Enrollment Team.
You should hear back from the Pitzer Enrollment team within 3-5 business days of submitting your initial request. Please note that all waiver requests are considered on a case-by-case basis, and not all waiver requests may be granted.
Will Pitzer accept Duolingo (DET) exam results instead of TOEFL or IELTS results?
No. Applicants requesting a waiver may submit scores, grades or certification demonstrating their ability to do college-level work in English. Applicants may submit DET scores as part of the waiver process, and may be asked to complete the DET if deemed necessary by the Pitzer Enrollment Team.
Who will conduct my interview?
If deemed necessary by the Pitzer Enrollment Team, your Skype interview will be conducted by a member of the Pitzer Office of International Programs. The interviewer will ask you questions about your academic preparation and interest in Pitzer. Please note that prospective students may only interview once.
