Jen Lesorogol: Hi there! I am a senior at Pitzer completing a double major in Environmental Analysis and International/Intercultural Studies. I thought that taking this quiz was fun! I really enjoyed the videos at the end, it was cool to watch how other Pitzer students talk about the core values!
Kristen Park: Hello everyone! I am a senior as well studying Psychology and Asian American Studies. I am a BuzzFeed quiz fanatic! So this was right up my alley.

What did you get? Were you surprised by the result?
JL: I got Intercultural Understanding! What did you get Kristen?
KP: Student Engagement!
JL: Do you think Student Engagement is a good fit for you?
KP: To be honest I was surprised that I got Student Engagement. I thought I would get Social Responsibility because social justice work is an integral part of my identity here at Pitzer, and also outside of the Claremont Colleges.
JL: I wasn’t too surprised that I got Intercultural Understanding, I feel that it is oftentimes the core value I engage with the most in and out of the classroom.
How do you engage with your core value?
KP: What do you think Jen, how do you engage with Intercultural Understanding at Pitzer, as well as outside of the Claremont Colleges?
JL: I feel that I engage with Intercultural Understanding all the time at Pitzer. First, I studied abroad in Madagascar and got to experience a new culture first hand. Studying abroad gave me a wonderful opportunity to experience both cultural and language immersion, as well as complete an independent research project. Second, I am an International/Intercultural Studies major where I constantly discuss themes of intercultural understanding and the role it plays in our world. How about you Kristen?
KP: I am confident in saying that most Pitzer students are engaged in some capacity, whether it be through student senate, part of an affinity group, Pitzer Outdoor Adventure, working at the Shakedown Cafe, and so many other ways. I also like to say that Pitzer students are always busy because they are so invested in different communities and coalitions. As a RA for first-year students I have been able to serve as a resource for my residents, but also create programs to foster a safe and inclusive environment. Creating these types of spaces, especially for historically marginalized students, is what drives my student engagement.
If you had to pick one core value, which would you pick and why?
JL: This must be a trick question! It is so hard to pick just one core value. I find that I, and most Pitzer students, are always striving to engage with all the core values. Some core values are more intuitive at first and feel very natural, while others take a bit of self exploration and discovery to figure out how you personally connect with them, or want to connect with them.
KP: I want to echo what Jen said about how engaging with the core values looks different for everyone. I remember writing my Pitzer supplemental essay on the core value of Social Responsibility being the core value that I engage with the most frequently. Now as a senior about to graduate I do feel Social Responsibility would still be the core value I practice most frequently, however now I have a deeper and richer understanding of the other four as well.
JL: Overall, the quiz was a fun and new way to engage with the core values. Sometimes, you might surprise yourself and actually have more in common with a different core value than one you might assign yourself.
