Art Field Group Ideology

Art courses at Pitzer are small and emphasize interaction with faculty who are professional artists, writers and curators in their own right. Our emphasis on interdisciplinary learning and environmental responsibility leads many of our students to seek double majors. Popular double majors include: Art and Environmental Analysis, Media Studies, and Psychology. Our curriculum culminates in professional development and the class organization of an exhibition of majors’ work during their senior year.

The art faculty work closely with our gallery director to program exhibitions that are relevant to Pitzer’s core values and the larger arts community. Gallery talks and exhibition walk-throughs are well-attended by students in art and in other fields of study, as the topics explored are relevant to the broader campus community. Pitzer’s proximity to the Los Angeles arts community results in many opportunities including exposure to a major national center for art through field trips to renowned galleries, museums and cultural institutions as well as internships working in artists’ studios.
