SENATE

Art Collective

Join us on our wild art adventure. Taste, smell, feel, hear, breathe your wildest dreams. Come enrich your artistic soul in conversations with other art creators and lovers. Electric crystals not included.

Asian Pacific American Coalition

Our club celebrates Asian and Asian American culture, brings awareness to Asian American issues, and helps foster the Asian and Asian American community at Pitzer and across the 5Cs. We put on a variety of events, and are available to help students put on events. We also have a sponsor program to help Asian and Asian American students adjust to college life at Pitzer.

Balancing Club

The purpose of this club is to explore all aspects of balancing weather it is balancing your time or balancing on your head, we want to do it all. Our clubs benefit the Pitzer community by helping people learn health new habits and increasing bodily awareness. Meetings will be held on every new and full moon and will be announced at least 3 days ahead of time on student_talk@pitzer.edu by any of the elected officials.

Beneficial Bees

The Beneficial Bees Club plans on introducing the Apis Mellifera (honeybee) to the Pitzer community in a highly advantageous way, promoting awareness of the importance of the bee throughout the community while also partaking in hands-on sustainability efforts. We will be holding beekeeping workshops, honey harvesting seminars, and teaching our members all about the endless benefits of keeping bees.

We hope to make members of the BBC and of the Pitzer community aware of the threats we face in the declining number of bees worldwide. Teaching and spreading the word about the sustainability of keeping bees is another main goal of our club. We hope to make all our members knowledgeable in basic bee biology and caring for and maintenance of a hive.

Black Student Union

Founded in 1993, the Black Student Union is committed to creating and maintaining an educational and comfortable environment that is conducive to the retention and emotional well-being of students of African descent. Our main goals are to promote cultural understanding and to establish alliances with our community.

Boxcar Club

The goal of Boxcar Club is to support and promote local music at Pitzer College in a DIY fashion. We want to unite students and connect them with the local community via free punk, alternative, and hardcore concerts.

Chess Club

To bring together people who love the game of chess to play and strengthen our minds as we use logic to conquer our opponent.

Cooking Club

D.A.C. is a coalition of students and activists in the Claremont community who believe in direct action as a means for community organizing and social change. We aim to confront the major sources of oppression and the negative consequences of capitalism in the greater Los Angeles area: racism, classism, homophobia, nationalism, fascism, neo-liberalism, sexism, and religious intolerance. We believe that it is necessary to challenge and remove instruments of oppression in order for communities to win the struggle for their own autonomy. If you feel aligned with these ideals or find yourself intrigued by them and wanting to learn more, we invite you to join us in a meeting. Direct Action Claremont is non-dogmatic and recognizes no single way as being the correct path to liberation; nor do we presume to know what liberation will look like. We allow only that the way is democratic and anti-authoritarian!

Ecology Center - Ecocenter

Ecocenter is a club based on raising awareness about environmental issues on campus and worldwide. We meet weekly to plan events throughout the school year. It is a great way to get involved in the community and see how we can  make positive changes with regards to leaving a lighter trace on the land.

Federated Free School Committee

The purpose of this club is to facilitate a space where the community members can teach classes to their community. Our main objective is to provide an opportunity for anyone who has knowledge to share it with others. In addition, we hope to reach people who may not have certain knowledge bases and get them to learn something new. We will also take on the responsibility of making flyers and advertising the classes that are coming up. We meet weekly, on Sundays and are run by the people. Meetings will alternate, weekly, between Pitzer's Campus and Palomares Park, in Pomona. This is to facilitate more community involvement.

Feminist Coalition

You do not have to self identify as a feminist to come and check us out. We are a student activist group interested in discussing and mobilizing around consciousness based in experiences of gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity, class, nationality and more. We work in collaboration with other groups on and off campus, locally and internationally. Our mission and vision shifts every semester depending on the interests, passions and ideas of our members.

Freshman Class

Each of the four student classes shall elect one representative to be a member of the Student Senate. They are charged with representing the views of their constituents and informing them about the ongoing work of the Student Senate. These representatives must hold at least three publicized meetings with their respective constituencies each academic semester. They must attend all Budget Committee and Social Activities Committee meetings. Only student members of each respective constituency may cast a vote for each representative position.

The club hopes to be a social safe-haven in which students can learn outside of the world of academia, strengthening their skills in sustainable farming and community building. It aims to grow food for the volunteers and workers, with all excess going to the Grove House and Shakedown eateries. Through these processes, it hopes to cultivate an awareness of and responsibility for space.

Golf Disc Club

The club hopes to be a social safe-haven in which students can learn outside of the world of academia, strengthening their skills in sustainable farming and community building. It aims to grow food for the volunteers and workers, with all excess going to the Grove House and Shakedown eateries. Through these processes, it hopes to cultivate an awareness of and responsibility for space.

Green Bike Program - GBP

The Green Bike Program is a student-run bike cooperative that strives to promote bike knowledge in the Claremont Community. You don't need to know a thing about bikes to join, you just need to be enthusiastic and willing to learn.

Grove House Committee

The Grove House Committee serves to oversee and grant permission for all activities pertaining to the Grove House. We help preserve and protect the historical integrity of the house. We strive to create an atmosphere of respect. At the same time, we hope to ensure that the Grove House is the center of social activities on Pitzer's campus.

Grill Masters

Do you have have what it takes to be a Master of the Grill? To stand tall behind a wall of flames, basking in the delicious stench of seared meat? To pass with a flick of your wrist perfectly charred meats and vegetables to a seething mass of a ravenous Pitzer plebs? We are a collection of only the most riotous and righteous of Pitzer students, I'm talking riding a cheetah across the serengeti brandishing a flaming sword to slay wildebeests in a frenzied sacrifice to heathen gods status. You want this. Embrace your inner caveman.

Halloween in the Halls

Our goal is to orchestrate a campus wide event that invites families from the Claremont community to experience our beautiful college while celebrating Halloween.

Kohoutek Music and Arts Festival

Kohoutek is by far the best weekend at Pitzer and why not be a part of planning it? Listen to music, propose your favorite band or artist, help us increase the art aspect of the event. Learn the steps it takes to throw a 2 day festival all while having the time of your college-life.

Latino Student Union

The purpose of this Pitzer, student run organization is to provide a forum of current political, cultural, and social awareness, as well as involvement and support in the Latina/o community and the surrounding Claremont College community. Latina/o Student Union (LSU) is a safe space for Latina/o students to meet and organize around issues and events that are important to Latinas/os.

Legal Society

Legal Society is a club for all individuals interested in law school, law related issues, or law in general. We strive to create a space open for all people to come together and discuss concerns, events, or question related to law. Being the only resource like this on campus, we encourage students from all background to come and find out what we are all about.

M.A.G.E. (Manga, Anime, Gaming, Entertainment)

The M.A.G.E. Club has been established to create a community for students to explore the multifaceted, interwoven mediums of comics, video games, Anime, trading card games, etc. We will use this club to widen people’s horizon concerning entertainment options, encourage group, communal enjoyment, and provide a time for people to relieve stress from academic rigors.

Mead Hall Council

Each residence hall has Hall Council to address student issues in that building, purchase items for the living area, and provide social opportunities. Hall Council represents the students residing in each residence hall and are governed by Pitzer’s Student Senate. Mead Hall Council has a variety of leadership positions. Elections are held during the first few weeks of school. You are encouraged to attend whether or not you hold an elected position.

Mixed-Martial Arts

The Claremont Colleges Mixed Martial Arts and Self Defense club is intended to provide a safe environment for training and instruction of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (“BJJ”), Muay Thai Kickboxing, and many other martial arts to both students of the Claremont Colleges and other interested adults from the community. Beyond practicing the arts, we’ll aim to increase participants’ appreciation of the rich cultures that the arts come from. Safety will be our highest priority.

Music Coalition

We are the student group that maintains the music practice space and an arsenal of musical equipment. We promote live music and foster collaboration among the many musicians of Pitzer College.

NRS (New Resource Students)

Pitzer College established the New Resources program in 1974 to bring the small, liberal arts college experience to students of non-traditional college age. The program was founded with the conviction that a truly diverse campus is one eager to encounter the added dimension brought by students of a range of ages as well as backgrounds and interests.

One Time Events (PAct)

The PAct Program Board is designed to promote two things: access and involvement. This structure provides more activities and events, using a wellness framework, and makes it easier for any student to get involved in campus life. The Student Directors meet weekly, planning and conducting activities on and off campus, and making allocations for one-time events organized by any student. The advisor will also provide Pitzer representation at the 5-college social activities meetings. The student directors welcome volunteer assistance and event suggestions from any interested student, and are also ready to assist people who have an idea they want to put into action.

PAS Hall Council

PPSA (Pitzer Psychological Student Association)

The Pitzer Psychological Student Association acts as a center for information, peer support and discussion for psychology majors/minors at Pitzer College. This year, Psych Club hopes to hold monthly events, as well as discussing classes and opportunities for psychology students. PPSA also holds a bi-annual Psychology Dinner, sponsored by Pitzer's Psychology Department.

From dawn patrol at Lowers to an evening photo shoot at the Bear park, we Sagehens go hard. Established at the height of the decadence and decline of the Reagan Administration, the Pitzer Outdoor Adventure program was established in order to give this country hope.

Through the promotion and subsidizing of outdoor activities, students at Pitzer College have created a community of weekend warriors (POA does not condone missing class) dedicated to the preservation of sanity and the creation of stoke. Along with the continued promotion of the the descriptive term EPIC, POA seeks to encourage the transmission of oral culture and social responsibility.

Rainbow People Collaborative

Rainbow People is Pitzer's LGBTQQIAAP and everything in between and beyond club. We provide a safe space for anyone who wishes to discuss issues surrounding gender, sex and sexuality; we offer a sense of community for those who may feel distanced from the rest of society based on their differences. We hope to provide a space for meaningful discussion regarding issues surrounding the queer community and any other topics members feel is relevant.

Reggae Fest

Reggae Fest is the best event in the fall semester! Come learn about Reggae music, how to put together a music festival and so much more!

Roosevelt Institute Club

The Roosevelt Institute is a progressive think tank with chapters on more than 80 college campuses around the country. Taking advantage of the unique resources at Pitzer and the other Claremont Colleges, the goal is to engage in policy research and writing and then connect the fruits of that research to the political process, delivering sound, progressive proposals to policymakers and advocacy groups.

Running Club

We want to promote running at Pitzer and help connect people who enjoy running. Also, allow students to share their knowledge about training strategies and racing strategies with other students as well as to help promote healthy lifestyles through running and various exercises.

PZ Promos (Pitzer Promotions)

Welcome to Pitzer Promotions! We are very excited to have you! At this club we create pitzer paraphernalia such as shirts and sell them around campus. We additionally plan holiday events and tailgates for major sports games. Come to our meeting Tuesday Nights at 9:30 in the Grove House!!

The general purpose of this club is to educate the Pitzer community about local, organic, and sustainable food while providing a delicious, healthy alternative to other eateries on campus. We also provide interested students with knowledge about cooking and running a business.

Smart Sex Society is a student run sexual health organization that promotes safe, healthy, and consensual sex in the Pitzer college community. We provide students with free condoms, sexual health outreach, and a safe community to have an open dialogue about sex and relationships.

Stitch N' Bitch

As PZ Stitch n’ Bitch we strive to bring together Pitzer students of all backgrounds, cultures, and stitching abilities to engage our creative senses on a weekly basis. We hope to engage the importance of social responsibility by doing a knit-for-non-profit project every semester.

Students For Immigration Justice

Support the struggles of the local community in their pursuit of immigration reform. We hope to stand with the local communities in their fight for a more equitable immigration policy. Our first objective will be to help the community of Ontario expose Ontario Police Department’s lack of respect for the law and pressure OPD to follow California State Law. SFIJ will document these abuses and raise consciousness in the Claremont colleges and surrounding communities.

Students United Pa'lante

Students United Pa’lante is a group of students from Pitzer College that shares the experiences they’ve had in college. We believe that education is more than a set of classes that are identical and mandatory for everyone. College can be learning about yourself, engaging culture and community, or whatever you want it to be.

The Otherside

The Otherside has been one of my favorite experiences while at Pitzer. It's exciting to see the products of the artists and creative thinkers at Pitzer. It is also a great way to learn a lot of skills including how to use design programs, throw parties, fundraise, and navigate the printing world. I've also met a lot of like-minded people through Otherside. And although putting together the magazine is a lot of work, it really is incredibly fulfilling to see the magazine once it's done!

Transfer Students

Tutors for a Cause

We tutor and mentor the children and grandchildren of the Dining Hall and Facilities staff. As tutors, we mentor and tutor children who mostly come from marginalized backgrounds and as a program, give them the opportunity to become accustomed to higher education and its accessibility.

West & East Hall Council

To support the needs of the East and West Hall community through programming, purchasing supplies, etc.

YCCA (Youth Coalition for Community Action)

Yoga Club

The purpose of the club is to create a yoga community at Pitzer. We want to create a safe, open and free space with good energy for people to relax, let go, and cultivate their emotional well being. Our hope is for students to explore their bodily capacity and find a positive outlet and study break.
