Environmental Education Outreach in Costa Rica

Pitzer junior Devin Eckert (center) spent her spring semester involved in environmental education outreach with local primary and secondary schools at the Firestone Center for Restoration Ecology in Costa Rica.

Devin, with the help of student Kline Swonger '08 and Pitzer in Costa Rica Director Isabel Argüello, facilitated on-site lessons in Spanish for children from the local, one-room Baru Elementary School. First to sixth grade students were accompanied by their teacher Flor Chacón and local regional supervisor from the Costa Rican Ministry of Education Eddy Céspedes.
