Juan Alvarez '06Juan Alvarez ’06 has been awarded a scholarship by the McNair Scholars Program. Juan is a political science major whose long range plans include completion of a JD and a Ph.D. in American or comparative politics.

Juan, a new resources student, said: “I came to Pitzer because of its diversity. I found it to be a welcoming campus, open to exchange of dialogue. Juan’s scholarship award includes a six-week summer session at Claremont Graduate University and a $2,100 stipend.

When not hitting the books, Juan enjoys antique watch and fountain pen repair restoration.

The McNair Scholars Program was created in honor of Ronald E. McNair, an African-American engineer, scientist and astronaut whose life tragically ended in 1986 while aboard NASA’s Challenger space shuttle.
