First-year Tara Beatty Crowned 2004 Portland Rose Festival Queen
Tara Beatty, a first-year Pitzer student, was crowned the 2004 Portland Rose Festival Queen at the Fred Meyer Queen's Coronation.
Tara, a Wilson High School ambassador, splits her time between performing and volunteering. She has performed in four school plays, and helped costume five plays as well. Tara was her sophomore class president, a member of the Improv Team, and won the Rotary Youth Exchange Scholarship the year before. In her free time, she volunteered at the Willowbrook Center for the Development of Human Potential, Portland Insight Meditation Community, and was involved in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Her hobbies include reading, and practicing Thai language. Tara plans to major in International Relations or Theater, and pursue a career working for the United Nations.
The Rose Festival Court is comprised of 14 outstanding women who are selected from 14 Portland-area high schools by their respective student bodies. Each court member represents her school throughout the months of May and June at many community events, including meetings with business leaders, visits to hospitals and senior living centers, and meetings with a variety of civic groups.
