Peter Nardi Elected President of Pacific Sociological Association
Peter Nardi, Professor of Sociology at Pitzer College, has been elected president of the Pacific Sociological Association (PSA) beginning April 2005. The PSA is the nation's oldest regional sociology society and one of the two largest associations with more than 1200 members.
The president's primary responsibility is to organize the 2006 annual meeting in San Diego and to work with the executive director in other association matters. Nardi previously served for four years as the editor of the PSA's journal, Sociological Perspectives .
The annual PSA meetings provide numerous opportunities for students to get involved presenting papers, and for professionals to learn from each other about teaching strategies and pedagogy.
"I see my role to include making even stronger connections between Pitzer's educational values and sociology's research and teaching goals," Nardi said.
Through its professional journal and the number of nationally known sociologists in the Pacific region, PSA is a regional academic association with a national reputation. The association focuses on promoting sociological research and the teaching of sociology, both of which have been the primary objective of Nardi's career.
