Campus Master Plan

A Master Plan to Transform the Campus

The 2001 Campus Master Plan concept:

  • Create social space to enhance community and reinforce Pitzer culture and identity
  • Shift the campus center to the northeast
  • Establish a primary public entry at the southeast campus corner
  • Embody environmental sensitivity through ecological design that teaches as well as conserves
  • Raise the profile of the landscape by integrating the drought-tolerant Arboretum with the Mounds
  • Replace existing dorms to increase residential capacity from 76% to 93% of the student body

Residential

A Housing Master Plan to Promote Our Community

The 2003 Housing Master Plan proposal:

  • Build seven new residence halls with 752 beds in two distinct neighborhoods around the Gold Student Center
  • Design architecturally distinctive structures that embrace ecological sustainability
  • Integrate instructional spaces into adjacent living areas and develop Learning Communities
  • Create a connection with the landscape with views and use of indoor-outdoor spaces

Upon completion of the Residential Life Project, we will be one of the few liberal arts colleges in the nation to raze and completely rebuild our student housing. Our aim is nothing less than to re-envision and reinvent the student residential housing experience. This new housing will be designed so that our students will enjoy a wholly integrated living and learning environment, and working together we will complete this next phase in the history of the College.
