David Knowles '07
A Senior Point Guard's Journey
David Knowles ’07 was featured in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin in January for his outstanding performance as a point guard on the Pitzer-Pomona basketball team. The article follows Knowles’ journey from Plano, Texas, to Pitzer College.
As a post-high school graduate, Knowles attended The Hill School, a boarding school in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, to improve his chances of being recruited by a Division I team. However, as a player who developed to his full potential later than some and with teams making offers early, Knowles was left with an uncertainty that he did not like.
When he was recruited by Pitzer-Pomona, Knowles said that he knew he would be in a good, competitive environment. “When I was at Hill, we scrimmaged against D3 schools, so I knew it was a good level,” Knowles recalled. “I knew I could compete at that level.”
Since coming to Pitzer and playing for the Pitzer-Pomona team, Head Coach Charles Katsiaficas commented, “He has grown up as a player, student and young man.”
Knowles was second team All-SCIAC last year and received the Daley Athletic Achievement Award last spring. He is proud to be a Pitzer-Pomona athlete and believes that coming to Pitzer was the best decision for him.
“I love the atmosphere here,” he said, “It’s four years of everyone exchanging ideas and everyone accepting everyone. . . . I wish the rest of the world was like that.”
