Master Class Series in Screen Writing with Matthew Carnahan
The Pitzer Writing Center is pleased to announce a series of four master classes in screen writing to be taught by highly acclaimed writer and director Matthew Carnahan. The classes will be held on Friday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 30, Nov. 6, Nov. 13, and Nov. 20. in Broad Center 209. Current students at the Claremont colleges will have priority for admission to the class, but faculty, staff, and alumni are all welcome to register.
We expect this class to fill quickly, so please register early. Enrollment is limited to 18 students. We will accept registration forms until Friday, Oct. 16th. Please submit the registration form to Jackie Levering Sullivan in Scott Hall 225 or at the Writing Center in Mead Hall 131.
Master classes are intense, small group writing workshops. The four classes are provided through a grant from the Campus Life Committee Printed Word Fund. For more information about the classes, respond to this email or call the Writing Center at 909-607-4321.
About Matthew Carnahan, Writer/Director
After 10 years in New York, working as a playwright and director in New York City (Live Bait, Velvet Elvis, The Elephant Trainer's Apprentice, Snap), Matthew received the Chesterfield Fellowship from Steven Spielberg. He went on to write Driveaway for Tom Hanks at Disney and to adapt his play, The Knees of a Cellist for MGM. He wrote and directed the short film, Mailman, produced by Sandra Bullock, which premiered at The Sundance Film Festival, and went on to 12 more festivals and a long run on BRAVO. The following year at Sundance, Matthew premiered his feature directorial debut, Black Circle Boys, to critical acclaim. His award-winning documentary about former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Rudyland, was part of Reel Life, the HBO/Cinemax Documentary series.
His novel, SERPENT GIRL, was published by Random House in 2006 to rave reviews and 3 editions, then published in paper (as COPPING FREE) last year.
For television, Matthew created the television series Trinity on NBC and Dirt, which ran for the past two seasons on FX, and has produced and consulted for numerous other shows.
Matthew is slated to direct Serpent Girl, which he has adapted for the screen and is currently working on his second novel, SWEET MARY SINGS AT MIDNIGHT.
