Sagehens Make the Grade
In the September 2002 issue of Swimming World, the Sagehens were listed as the No. 8 Division III women's swimming team for its combined NCAA performance and team grade-point average. The special ranking was suggested by a Swimming World reader earlier this year, in an attempt to identify which colleges are the most successful in combining swimming and academic success. The top Division III men's and women's teams hail from Emory College. The Sagehens men's swimming team was not included on the Top 10 list.

Pitzer Alumnae Inducted into Sagehens Hall of Fame

The Pomona-Pitzer Colleges Athletic Hall of Fame inducted four individuals and a team on Nov. 9 during the 45th annual Hall of Fame Induction ceremony at Pomoma College's Oldenburg Center.

Pitzer alumnae Caryn Cranston (Pitzer '92, women's basketball and tennis) and Erin Hendricks (Pitzer '92, women's tennis) were inducted into the Hall of Fame. Also honored were Shelley Keeler Whelan (Pomona '92, women's tennis), Nate Kirtman (Pomona '92, men's football and track & field) and the 1992 NCAA Women's Championships Tennis Team.

Cranston, a tennis, basketball and softball standout at San Marino High School, also excelled in basketball and tennis while at Pitzer College. In basketball, she earned First Team All SCIAC honors for four consecutive years, and was named SCIAC Player of the Year in 1992. She twice earned Second Team All SCIAC honors in tennis as a junior and senior. She also qualified three times in doubles to the NCAA National Championships, and three times earned All American status at Nationals.

In her sophomore year, she teamed with Keeler to win the 1990 NCAA III Doubles title. After graduating from Pitzer, she coached basketball at La Verne for three years, and then taught English and coached basketball, tennis and volleyball at the junior high and high school level

Hendricks, a graduate of Estancia High School in Costa Mesa, earned four consecutive First Team All SCIAC as a Sagehen. As a senior, she teamed with Keeler to claim a second straight NCAA III doubles title. Hendricks also helped the Sagehens squad win the NCAA III team title that year. She now is a certified Pilates trainer and small business owner.
