Pitzer a "Top Company to Work For"

Pitzer College recently was nominated for the Business Press' second annual Top Companies to Work For in the Inland Empire. Pitzer is the only Claremont College and one of only four colleges on the list of 150 companies. Kiara Canjura '99, Pitzer's Human Resources assistant to the director, attended the Feb. 14 awards luncheon at the Riverside Convention center where the winners were announced.

"I am proud of our nomination and consider it proof of Pitzer's commitment to its community and social responsibility," Canjura said.

The event was designed to honor and recognize businesses that promote the type of healthy work environment that draws high-quality employees. The Business Press received more than 150 nominations from employees answering questions about their work environment and overall contentment.

Pitzer was nominated by Jamshed Khan, human resources assistant and payroll specialist, who has been at Pitzer for nearly a year. Pitzer was part of Category 2 - organizations with between 100 and 999 employees - and was in the company of such prominent businesses as Allstate Insurance, Compaq, Nordstrom and Southwest Airlines. Four judges scored the entries and selected a top winner for each group.

This year's winners were GYL Decauwer CPA's & Business Consultants (1-99 employees), Anderson News Company (100-999 companies) and Riverside Community Hospital (1000+ employees.) Jack H. Brown, chairman, president and CEO of Stater Bros. Markets, was keynote speaker at the luncheon.

The awards luncheon will be aired at 7:30 p.m. March 6, and 4:30 p.m. March 23, on KVCR 91.9-FM.
