Pitzer's New Faculty

This fall, Pitzer welcomes two new members of the full-time faculty, 10 new visiting professors and one new faculty member assigned by Joint Sciences.

Newly appointed in tenure-track positions are Ming Ma,
assistant professor of media studies, and Andre Wakefield, assistant professor of history, who will begin teaching in September 2002.

Ma holds an M.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts and a B.A. from Columbia University. Ma's video works have appeared nationally and internationally. His teaching experience includes digital media courses at UC Riverside and UC Irvine, and three years in the Asian American
Studies Department at UC Santa Barbara.

Wakefield holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. from the University of Chicago, an M.A. from the University of Minnesota and a B.A. from St. John's College. His academic interests include environmental history; history of the fiscal-police state;
German colonialism; history of political economy; history of mining and earth sciences; and history of the prison.

New to the visiting faculty are Abel Amaya (sociology), Estela Ballon (sociology), Martha Chono-Helsley (media studies and CCCSI), Fredrick Diaz (Spanish), Mark Duva (psychology), Markus Fischer (political studies), Jeffrey Miller (mathematics), Jason Venetoulis (environmental
studies), Faye Linda Wachs (sociology) and Sheila Walker (psychology).

Newly appointed in Joint Sciences and dedicated to Pitzer this year is Irene Tang (biology). Other Joint Sciences faculty assigned to Pitzer this year are Newton Copp (biology), Dan Guthrie (biology), Robin Justice (biology), Thomas Poon (biology) and Steve Naftilan (physics).
