Connecting To Pzacad In Mac OS

This help sheet will provide you with instructions on how to connect to the student server called PZACAD using Mac OS 7.6 through 9.2. These instructions are based on the assumption that you already have an Ethernet card installed and configured to connect to the Internet. In addition, you will be required to enter your Pitzer account user name and password when making the connection. If you need assistance with your account information, please send a Online Help Request to Resnet or call ext. 77548 and push "2" to leave a message. Please provide your full name, phone number, dorm room number, and a description of the problem and a Resnet Technician will assist you in the order in which your call was received.

What is Pzacad?

Pzacad is the name of the student server here at Pitzer College. Configuring your computer to connect to Pzacad provides you with the following benefits:

  • Storage space -- 200mb of free personal user space.
  • Secure -- Can only be accessed by your user name and password.
  • File Protection -- Files are backed up daily and can easily be retrieved from backup tapes when there is a problem.
  • Personal Web Page -- May use your user space to host your own personal web page.
  • Convenient Access -- Can access your personal user space from all computer labs on campus.

Connecting to Pzacad

The following steps will help guide you through the process of connecting to your user space on the Pzacad server. If you are running Mac OS X, please refer to the help sheeet titled "Connecting To Pzacad Mac OS X".

  1. Click on the Apple icon in the upper left hadn corner of your screen and select Chooser from the menu.
  1. Click on the AppleShare icon and select PIT_ACADEMIC in the box labeled AppleTalk Zones. Under Select a file server, click on PZACAD. Your screen should now look similar to Figure 1.

  1. Click OK to bring up the Connect to the file server "Pzacad" as: box. After entering your Pitzer user name and password, click the Connect button (Figure 2).

  1. In the Select the items you want to use: box, select MacStudents and click OK (Figure 2).

  1. Finished! Your desktop should now have an icon called MacStudents. To access your user space, double click the icon to open the volume and double-click on the folder with your user name. At this point, you can use drag and drop or use the File menu in your applications to save your files on the server.

Remember! Files saved on the Pzacad server are backed up daily. For this reason it is highly recommended that you save important files related to your schoolwork in your personal user space.
