Resnet Help Sheets
One of the most important things you can do to keep your Windows computer running smoothly is to install the latest security updates and patches form Microsoft. A computer without the latest critical updates and connected to the Internet is vulnerable to hackers. Many computers in the residential halls have been compromised due to the fact they haven't been running Microsoft's Windows Update on a regular basis.
Running Windows Update
- 1. Launch Internet Explorer, click on the Tools menu and select Windows Update.
- 2. At the Windows Update site, click Scan for updates. Windows Update scans your computer and provides you with a tailored selection of updates that apply only to the items on your computer.
- 3. Click Review and Install to install the selected updates.
Critical Updates are important!
When selecting updates, always install the "Critical Updates". These updates are considered critical to the operation of your computer and by default are automatically selected for installation during the scan for available updates. They help resolve known issues, and protect your computer from known security vulnerabilities.
