How to Find the Hardware Address of Your Wireless Card

This help sheet will provide you with instructions on how to locate the hardware address also know as the physical address or MAC address of your wireless card.

Window 2000/XP

1. Click the Start button and select Run from the Start menu.

2. In the Open box enter cmd and click the OK button. Your screen should now look similar to Figure 1.

3. At the command prompt ( C:\>) type ipconfig /all and press the enter key.

4. Under Ethernet Adapter Wireless Network Connection, look for something called Physical Address or Hardware Address. This address should be a combination of letters and numbers similar to the following: 00-0e-35-0a-2b-68

5. Note this address and include it in your wireless access registration request.

MAC OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

  • 1. Open System Preferences on the Apple menu and select Network.
  • 2. In the Network dialog box, make sure Airport is highlighted.
  • 3. Click the Advanced button in the lower right corner.
  • 4. Under the Airport tab look to the bottom of the screen. See Figure 2 below.

  • 5. Note the Airport ID and enter this address in the Physical Address (MAC) box on the Wireless Registration Form.

MAC OS X 10.4 & 10.3

  • 1. Open System Preferences on the Apple menu and select Network.
  • 2. In the Network dialog box, use the drop down menu in the Show box and select Airport. Your screen should now look similar to Figure 3.

  • 3. Note the Airport ID and enter this address in the Physical Address (MAC) box on the Wireless Registration Form.

Windows Vista

  • 1. Click the Start button and within the Start Search box type Command (see figure 4)
