Installation Instructions:
McAfee Virus Scanning Software
Note: To avoid conflicts, remove any anti-virus software
you have on your computer by using the Add/Remove Program in the Control Panel.
Windows NT/2K/XP
- Click on the VirusScan v8.5 For Windows NT/2K/XP/Vista link
to download the self-extracting zip file.
- In the File Download box, click the Run button to download
the self-extracting file to your hard drive.

- In the Internet Explorer - Security Warning box click the Run button to run the self-extracting file.

- Click the OK button in the WinZip Self-Extractor dialog box to extract the McAfee Virus Scanning files to your hard drive

- Click the Setup button to begin the installation.

Windows 9x
- Click on the VirusScan v4.5.1 For Windows 9x link to
download the self-extracting zip file.

- In the File Download box, click the Open button to run
the WinZip Self-Extractor.
- Click the Unzip button to unzip the files to the default
folder listed or click the browse button to select a folder of
your choice.

- Open the folder on your computer where you unzipped the files
to and double click on the VScan451.msi file to begin the
installation.
Mac OS X
-
Click the Virex v7.7 For MAC OS X link to download the
compressed
Virex7-3.7.dmg file to your desktop.
The compressed file should decompress automatically to display
a package icon on you desktop.
Double-click the Virex package icon to start the Installer.Follow the on-screen steps to install the software.Read and accept the license agreement. If you do not accept the license agreement,
the installation cannot continue.Click Install to perform the Installation.The Authentication dialog box appears.Enter your local admin user name and password. You will need administrative privileges
to complete the install. Click OK.When the Installer finishes, it notifies you with a dialog box recommending you to
perform an On-Demand scan. Click OK.
- Click Restart to complete Virex installation. This will ensure that all of the scanners
start properly.
Virex is now located in your computer's Applications folder. The ReadMe file is available
in the Documentation folder of the product package. Refer to this file for known issues,
online resources, and other useful information.
By default, the Active Scanner is on while the Background and Mounted Scanners are
off. You need to manually configure scanners for functions like checking files for
virus-like characteristics.
Mac OS 8.0-9.2
- Click the Virex v6.1 For MAC OS 8.0-9.2 link to download
the compressed Virex6.1.sit file to your desktop.
The file should automatically self-extract creating a folder
called Virex6.1 on your desktop.
Double-click the folder Virex6.1 to open it.
- Double-click the folder called Installation files to
open it and click on the Installer icon to begin the Installation.
Your screen should now look like the screen below:

- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
