Assistant Professor in Africana Studies - Fall 2010
Intercollegiate Department of Africana Studies

The Claremont Colleges Intercollegiate Department of Africana Studies invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Africana Studies. The preferred area of expertise is political science, with an emphasis on political theory and diasporic studies. Five courses annually will be the teaching load for this appointment. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a two-semester introductory course (survey + methods), the Senior Seminar, and additional courses in the candidate’s field of expertise. He or she will be expected to work collaboratively in an intercollegiate and interdisciplinary setting.

A Ph.D. by the time of appointment is required and teaching experience is highly desirable. The successful candidate should have a strong commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education and teaching, as well as the promise of a productive research program. Send a letter of application, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy and sample syllabi, a brief description of your research, reprints, and three letters of reference.

The appointment for this position will be to the Intercollegiate Department of Africana Studies and to Scripps College.

Assistant Professor of Classics

Pitzer College, a member of The Claremont Colleges, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Classics, to begin in the fall semester, 2010. Candidates should have a strong research and teaching interest in the material evidence for classical antiquity, with a particular emphasis in Greek archaeology and art. Candidates should have the ability to teach either Latin or Greek at the undergraduate level, with a preference for Greek. Classics at Pitzer College is part of the intercollegiate Classics program of the Claremont Colleges, which consists of six full-time positions and draws widely on faculty in allied disciplines.
