One-Year Visiting Assistant Professor in World Literature

Pitzer College invites applications for a one-year Visiting appointment at the Assistant Professor level beginning Fall 2012 in Twentieth-Century World Literatures in English with an emphasis in fiction. A secondary interest in teaching creative writing (fiction) strongly desired. Candidate will teach 5 courses. The successful candidate will have an ongoing research and/or artistic agenda, and a proven commitment to undergraduate liberal arts education and teaching. A Ph.D. in English or M.F.A. in Creative Writing (or equivalent) preferred by time of appointment.

Associate Dean for Global-Local Programs & Founding Faculty Director, Institute for Global-Local Action and Study (I-GLAS)

Pitzer College invites applications and nominations for the faculty position of Associate Dean for Global-Local Programs and Founding Faculty Director, Institute for Global-Local Action and Study (I-GLAS). I-GLAS is dedicated to promoting interdisciplinary curricular and research programs and activities that link the global and the local, and addressing key issues of globalization and its effects on local communities and on nations. The Associate Dean for Global-Local Programs and Founding I-GLAS Director will provide strong academic leadership and vision for I-GLAS, infusing the College curriculum with critical community-based learning, research, and action initiatives that connect the global and the local, and encouraging faculty/student global-local research projects and new courses that build on the College's successful community engagement and study abroad programs. He or she will also oversee the Institute's budget, teach two courses a year related to global-local issues, and advise students. This tenure-track faculty position is open with respect to rank. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline and have a strong record of research and teaching on global-local issues as well as extensive experience with community-based pedagogies, research, and intercultural education. In addition, he or she will have the intellectual expertise to engage with globalization as a multilayered, uneven, and contested process, complicated by race, social class, gender, sexualities, diasporas, immigration, and unequal citizenship. The Director will hold an endowed chair.

Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics

Pitzer College, a member of the Claremont Colleges, invites applications for TWO one-year full time visiting positions at the Assistant Professor level. We have a preference for candidates with experience in teaching Principles of Microeconomics, international trade, international finance, labor, environmental, health, behavioral, money and banking, public finance, and/or corporate finance. The teaching load will be two courses one semester and three courses the other semester. Candidates with completed Ph.D.s by July 1, 2012 are preferred, but applications from candidates who are ABD will be considered.

Assistant Professor in Chicano/a Latino/a Studies

Pitzer College, a member of the Claremont Colleges, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Chicano/a Latino/a Studies with an emphasis on Chicano/a Latino/a health, broadly defined. Preferred candidates will be able to offer courses on socio-cultural factors associated with health behaviors among Latinos, ethnic disparities in health outcomes, Latinas’ reproductive health, generational differences in health outcomes, and public health. We are open to candidates trained in traditional disciplines, such as Anthropology, History, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology, and interdisciplinary fields of study, such as Chicano/a Latino/a Studies, Family Studies, and Ethnic Studies. PhD at time of appointment is expected. The position is set to begin in Fall 2012.

Teacher/Scholar of Environmental Design

Pitzer College invites applications for a tenure-track appointment (rank open) for a teacher/scholar of environmental design to join our interdisciplinary program in Environmental Analysis. The successful candidate will occupy an endowed Chair dedicated to sustainability and the built environment, and will be the founding Director of the Conservancy for Southern California Sustainability at Pitzer College. We seek candidates whose teaching and research interests consider relationships among the natural world, the built environment, the political domain, and the social sphere, and who can successfully administer an emerging institute. 

We are looking for a scholar who mixes a design perspective with the social sciences, the natural sciences, and the humanities. Candidates should bring a design orientation to the study of sustainability policy and the built environment.  The ideal candidate will be able to create teaching and research opportunities that are inclusive of regional issues in Southern California, and be able to infuse the concept of sustainability into a multidisciplinary approach to the built environment. Areas of particular interest to Pitzer College include theory and praxis in green architecture and urban planning, policy and land use, and landscape design. We seek a candidate who takes a hands-on approach to producing leaders capable of creative problem solving for environmental sustainability and the public interest. The successful candidate will teach 3 to 4 courses per year, and will direct the institute’s programs. A Ph.D. or terminal degree in a relevant discipline is expected.

Professor of Psychology - Human Neuroscience

Pitzer College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Human Neuroscience, beginning in the fall 2012 semester. Area of specialization is open, but the preference would be for an applicant whose research focuses on Cognitive, Affective, and/or Behavioral Neuroscience or Human Functional Neuroanatomy. Applicants whose researchhas applications to clinical, psychoneuroimmunological,or cultural aspects of neuroscience are also encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain an active research program that involves undergraduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include 5 undergraduate courses per year, including courses in Brain and Behavior (taught from a systems perspective), one or more courses with a laboratory component (e.g., Social Neuroscience or Cognitive Neuroscience), an upper division seminar course in the candidate’s area of specialization, as well as service courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Statistics, and Research Methods. Courses that expand our offerings in gender, sexuality, and/or culture and ethnicity from a neuroscience perspective would also be welcomed. The appointment will be made at the rank of assistant professor. Members of the Psychology Field Group at Pitzer College have the opportunity to join the Neuroscience community that is active across the 5 colleges that make up the Claremont Colleges consortium.
