Each academic year, The Center for Social Inquiry at Pitzer College presents a thematic program of public events. The theme for the Center's inaugural year, in 2008-09, is "Global Issues in Public Health and Foods." The Center's annual program includes public lectures, film showings, performances, and panel discussions. The 2008-09 program will be kicked off with a presentation by Helen Epstein, author of The Invisible Cure, on November 6th.
In keeping with Pitzer College's pursuit of interdisciplinary learning and public inquiry, the Center's program includes scholars and public intellectuals from the sciences and the humanities, as well as the social and behavioral sciences. The Center's spring Student Fellowship program provides a unique opportunity for undergraduates at Pitzer, and the other Claremont Colleges, to interact with the Center's visiting speakers.
