Non-Emergency Campus Safety Advisory

Subject: Bernard Field Station Fire Update
Date: Wednesday, September 11, 2013
Time: 6:08 p.m.

At approximately 3:40 p.m., Claremont Colleges Campus Safety was notified that Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) was responding to a brush fire north of Foothill Blvd, just outside of the Bernard Field Station. The Bernard Field Station is located north of the Claremont Colleges campus between Mills Ave and North College Ave.

At no time was the Pitzer College campus or our community members subjected to any immediate threat.

Firefighters, with the assistance of SuperScooper aircraft, were able to contain the fire by approximately 4 p.m. and successfully extinguished it by 4:50 p.m.  Officials report no injuries or structural damage.

According to Claremont Chief of Police Paul Cooper, fire investigators are looking into reports that construction, possibly welding near the southwest border of the property, may have started the fire.
