Pitzer College Students Named to All-SCIAC Teams
Claremont, Calif. (May 9, 2012) — Pitzer College sophomore Chris Wiechert '14 has been named first-team All-SCIAC and Pitzer junior Max Sabel '13 was honored with a spot on second-team All-SCIAC following a vote by the league's tennis coaches.
Wiechert compiled an 18-6 record in singles this spring, including a stretch of 13 straight victories, 12 of which came against nationally ranked teams. A year ago, Wiechert was named the National Division III Rookie of the Year.
Sabel has played at No. 3 singles this season, while also teaming with Frankie Allinson PO '13 at No. 1 doubles. One of his highlights was the clinching singles victory in a 5-4 win over UC Santa Cruz, a team the Sagehens had never beaten before.
The Saghens Men's Tennis team is 14-10 this year and ranked No. 9 in the nation in Division III, heading into the NCAA Regionals this weekend at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Sagehens will begin regional play at CMS on Friday against UC Santa Cruz.
