Pitzer College Student Receives Poetry Awards and Publishes in Anthology of Best Undergraduate Writing

Claremont, Calif. (May 2, 2012) — Pitzer College student Isabel Neal '12 received a scholarship to the 2012 New York State Summer Writers Institute. She was also awarded a fellowship to attend the highly selective Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets this summer and had her poem "Field Poem" published in Bennington College's plain china: best undergraduate writing 2011.

At the New York State Summer Writers Institute, Neal will be working with Campbell McGrath and Rosanna Warren for two weeks in the intermediate/advanced poetry writing workshop. The institute, a joint project of the Office of the Dean of Special Programs at Skidmore College and the New York State Writers Institute at the University at Albany, features creative writing workshops in fiction, non-fiction and poetry.

The Bucknell Seminar for Younger Poets accepts only 10 undergraduate poets for its yearly seminar. The writers receive fellowships and the opportunity to write with the guidance of established poets. The seminar is held at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania for three weeks in June.

The Bennington publication plain china is a national literary anthology that showcases the work of undergraduate students from across the country. "Field Poem" can be read online.

Neal is a double major in community design and English and world literature.
