Pitzer College Student Awarded German Academic Exchange Service Scholarship

Claremont, Calif. (May 2, 2012) — Pitzer College student Autumn Pham '14 has been awarded a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) undergraduate scholarship. The scholarship funds study abroad for highly-qualified undergraduate students with well-defined plans to study, conduct research or complete an internship in Germany.

With the support of the DAAD scholarship, Pham will spend two months in Berlin in 2013 researching her senior thesis on German identity and the perception in the European Union of Germany's role in the debt crisis. She will continue her research at Philipps-Universitaet Marburg where she plans to take classes in political science.

Pham is majoring in German studies and European political studies—a self-designed major which focuses on German and French political systems, their relationship with one another and their roles within the EU.

Pham has long been interested in international relations and speaks English, Vietnamese, German and French. She studied at the Freie Universitaet in Berlin last summer and plans to return the university to take a course in literature this August.

She will be spending fall 2012 in Paris before leaving for Berlin to undertake her senior thesis research.
