Sagehen Women's Soccer Honored by SCIAC
Claremont, Calif. (November 8, 2011) — Pitzer College student-athlete Traci Lopez '12 and Rachel Eckerlin '12 from the Sagehen Women's Soccer team were honored by the 2011 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams, announced today by the league office.
Forward Traci Lopez '12 was named to the All-SCIAC First Team, while midfielder Rachel Eckerlin '12 was named to the second team.
Lopez earned first-team honors after leading the Sagehens in goals with 11, which also tied for second in the SCIAC. At one point during the conference season, Lopez scored goals in five straight games, including the game-winners against Whittier, La Verne and the only Sagehen goal in a 1-1 tie with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, all in the same week.
Eckerlin was named to the second team after finishing off her career by serving as team captain and leading the team to its first postseason appearance since 2006. Eckerlin, who was cut from the team as a freshman, became a two-year captain and All-SCIAC honoree, while also earning All-Region honors from the NSCAA last year.
Sagehen Women's Soccer finished the year with a 10-6-1 record, including 7-4-1 in the SCIAC, which tied for second place. The Sagehens qualified for the SCIAC Tournament for the first time since 2006.
