Pitzer College Student-Athlete Ellen Yamasaki Honored by SCIAC

Claremont, Calif. (November 30, 2011) — Pitzer College student-athlete Ellen Yamasaki '15, the outside hitter/setter on the Sagehen Women's Volleyball team, was crowned Freshman of the Year by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC).

Yamasaki was also named to the All-SCIAC second team and received an honorable mention all-region selection from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Yamasaki lead the team in kills with 230, while finishing second in both digs (266) and assists (247), putting her in the rare 200-200-200 club in those three categories.

Pitzer College joins with Pomona College in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Sagehen teams include soccer, basketball, football, baseball, track & field, golf, tennis, water polo, swimming and diving.
