Pitzer College Alumnus Named Los Angeles Deputy Mayor

Claremont, Calif. (July 19, 2011) — Pitzer College alumnus Matthew D. Karatz '94 was appointed deputy mayor of the Los Angeles Mayor's Office of Economic and Business Policy in today's news conference.

Karatz, formerly the managing director in the Mayor's Office of Economic and Business Policy, has oversight of all housing related City departments to LADWP asset and real estate management to the City Planning Department.

Prior to joining the Mayor's Office, Karatz managed the real estate investment portfolio for Avondale Investments, LLC, property acquisitions at Caruso Affiliated and land acquisitions in Los Angeles County, Ventura County and Kern County for KB Home.

Karatz also worked at ABC News in New York as an investigative journalist for the late Peter Jennings and the network's Chief Investigative Correspondent Brian Ross. He is an Emmy Award recipient for excellence in investigative journalism.

Matthew Karatz majored in political studies at Pitzer College.
