Pitzer College Receives $1 Million Donation from Gloria Gold P'74
Claremont, Calif. (March 29, 2011 ) — Pitzer College received a $1 million gift from Gloria Gold P'74 in support of renovations to the Gold Student Center.
The gift will help provide major improvements to the student center that include the construction of a new front entrance, improvement and expansion of the fitness space and equipment and enlargement and enhancement to the kitchen and student lounge area.
Gold's daughter, Melinda Gold Wiltsie '74, attended Pitzer as a transfer student, and the Gold family's long relationship with Pitzer began. Gloria's husband, Peter Gold, joined the Pitzer College Board of Trustees in 1976 and served as chair from 1985-1991. Melinda served on the board from 1997-2003. The Gold's daughter-in-law, Vicki Kates Gold, succeeded her, serving since 2006.
The Gold's many gifts to Pitzer College include funds for the Gold Student Center, which opened in 1995, the Peter and Gloria Gold Scholarship and the Peter and Gloria Gold Professorship. They also contributed a major gift to Phase I of the College's Residential Life Project, which opened in 2008.
