Pitzer College Awarded Full Carnegie Foundation Community Engagement Classification
Claremont, Calif. (January 5, 2011) — Pitzer College was awarded Carnegie Foundation's new Community Engagement Classification of Curricular Engagement and Outreach & Partnership.
This Carnegie Classification describes the collaboration between institutions of higher education and the larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.
"Manifesting the ethos of social responsibility through community engagement locally and globally is a pinnacle component of a Pitzer College education. This award recognizes the good work Pitzer has done in this regard since its inception and the ways in which our efforts have expanded in recent years," said Tessa Hicks, director of Pitzer College's Community Engagement Center.
Pitzer students donate more than 100,000 hours to community service annually through the College's Community Engagement Center programs and partnerships.
