Pitzer College Alumnus Kevin de Leon '03 to be Sworn in to California Senate

Claremont, Calif. (January 20, 2011) — Pitzer College alumnus Kevin de Leon '03 was elected to represent California's 22nd Senate District. He will be sworn in during a ceremony and celebration at 6 pm on January 20 at The Aratani/Japan America Auditorium.

He previously served as a member of the California Assembly representing the 45th district. During his term, de Leon was appointed the chair of the Assembly Appropriations Committee and served on policy committees including Health, Natural Resources, Governmental Organization and the Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media. He also served on the Joint Committee for Emergency Services and Homeland Security and several select committees including the Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Growth Management, International Trade and the Preservation of California's Entertainment Industry.

The 22nd Senatorial district includes East Hollywood, Echo Park, Elysian Valley, Mt. Washington, Lincoln Heights, South Los Angeles, the Cities of Alhambra, South Pasadena, San Marino, Vernon, Maywood and unincorporated portions of Los Angeles County.

Kevin de Leon graduated from Pitzer College with a degree in politics of education.
