Pitzer College Alumnus Honored by Los Angeles Press Club

Claremont, Calif. (January 12, 2011) — Pitzer College alumnus and Los Angeles Times reporter Jeff Gottlieb '75 will be honored by the Los Angeles Press Club with its first ever Public Service Award for breaking and staying with the City of Bell Scandal. Gottlieb will share the award with collaborator Ruben Vives at the 53rd Annual Southern California Journalism Awards Gala on June 26 at the Biltmore Hotel.

Gottlieb and Vives's reporting of Bell resulted in criminal indictments of the city's top officials, local governmental reforms and an examination of salaries of local government officials in cities across California and the nation.

Gottlieb, who majored in sociology while at Pitzer College, has worked for the LA Times for the past 13 years. He previously served as writer or editor at the Herald Examiner, Riverside Press Enterprise, San Jose Mercury News and Sports Illustrated.
