Pitzer College Student-Athlete Named National Tennis Rookie of the Year

Claremont, Calif. (June 14, 2011) — Pitzer College student-athlete Christopher Wiechert '14 was named the 2011 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Rookie of the Year and ITA Western Region Rookie of the Year. Coach Ben Belletto was also named the 2011 ITA Western Region Coach of the Year.

Wiechert is the first Sagehen to win this national recognition and the first since 2001 to receive the regional award. He was also selected to the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Conference First Team and ended the season ranking 12th in the Western Region Conference.

This year the Sagehen men's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Championship for the first time since 2001 and ended the season on the national top 10 ranking, the first time since 1994.

Sagehen teams include soccer, basketball, football, baseball, track & field, golf, tennis, water polo, swimming and diving.
