Pitzer College Alumna Awarded a Contemporary Painting Prize
Claremont, Calif. (June 9, 2011) — Pitzer College alumna and artist Kim Schoenstadt '95 was awarded the inaugural Catherine Doctorow Prize for Contemporary Painting from the Salt Lake Art Center and the Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation. In addition to a cash award, the Art Center will host a solo exhibition of her work from November 4, 2011 through January 7, 2012.
Schoenstadt was selected for her passionate dedication to a visionary practice in contemporary painting. Her site-specific projects, which frequently include elements of audience participation, involve painterly installations that incorporate complex urban views, themes of modernist architecture and historically informed explorations of image and society.
The Catherine Doctorow Prize for Contemporary Painting is a bi-annual national painting award that recognizes exceptional emerging and mid-career artists in the United States.
Schoenstadt, who majored in art at Pitzer, will debut a special exhibition entitled Notes, Odd Lots, Restoration Selections, etc. for the College's upcoming Alumni Weekend. The exhibition will run from June 1 to 12 at Pitzer's Nichols Gallery. For more information, visit: http://www.pitzer.edu/galleries/.
