Pitzer College Receives Excellence in Design Award for Benson Auditorium

Claremont, Calif. (June 6, 2011) – Pitzer College's George C. S. Benson Auditorium will receive a 2010 Excellence in Design Award from the City of Claremont Architectural Commission. A reception for the winners will be held on Wednesday, June 29 at 6:15 pm in the City Hall lobby. The Mayor and commission chair will present the awards during the Architectural Commission meeting at 7 pm.

The George C.S. Benson Auditorium, completed in the spring of 2010, underwent a top-to-bottom renovation that included expanded performance and lecture space, a new dual purpose glass-enclosed lobby opening onto the Mounds, new seating throughout the facility and an attractive exterior architectural design.

In 1980, The City of Claremont Architectural Commission established the Excellence in Design Awards Program to recognize and encourage high quality design projects.
