Pitzer College Student Athlete Named SCIAC Player of the Year and Sagehen Most Valuable Athlete
Claremont, Calif. (May 11, 2010) – Pitzer College congratulates James Kang ’10, the 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Pitzer-Pomona Most Valuable Athlete for outstanding contribution to the athletic program.
Kang, a four-year starter on the baseball team, has won three SCIAC Championships with his team. He was selected as Second Team All-SCIAC as a sophomore. In his junior season he was named a First Team All-SCIAC and Third Team All-West Region selection. This season, Kang served as the team captain and batted .408 with 48 RBI. He led the conference with 11 homeruns and 116 total bases. Kang also served as the team's closing pitcher. His 2.03 ERA is the second lowest in the league, securing .212 bats against average. His five saves placed him second place in conference.
James Kang, an economic major, also received the Outstanding Student-Athlete Award.
