Director of Pitzer Art Galleries Awarded Curatorial Residency in Milan
Claremont, Calif. (November 17, 2009) — Ciara Ennis, curator and director of Pitzer Art Galleries, was invited to participate in a one month curatorial residency in Milan by VIR Viafarini-in-Residence Program.
"I hope to acquaint myself with the contemporary art scene in Italy and a month will allow me to meet and do studio visits with Italian artists. I'm also looking forward to collaborating with Italian curator, Gabi Scardi to develop a show which could travel to Pitzer and Milan," said Ennis.
Viafarini, a nonprofit organization for contemporary art founded in 1991, is an exhibition space open for experimentation, offers documentation services on visual arts and runs a residency program for artists and curators to spend a period of research in Milan. Previous participants include renowned artists Tobias Rehberger, Runa Islam, Katharina Grosse and critic Dennis Cooper.
Ciara Ennis has been the director/curator of the Pitzer Art Galleries since fall 2007. Under her leadership, Pitzer has secured ten site specific shows. This past October, she was selected to attend the Third Annual European Course for Contemporary Art Curators.
