Tavis Smiley Foundation Honors Pitzer College Student for Outstanding Leadership & Service

Claremont, Calif. (October 9, 2009)—Pitzer College student Kymberli Corprue ’13 was honored as a Smiley 100 Young Leader of the Decade at the 10th Annual Salute to Youth Leadership Benefit and Auction on October 3.

Corprue was selected because of her passion for education and her commitment to community service. Corprue received a scholarship to attend the Tavis Smiley Foundation’s Leadership Institute in 2008 and 2009. She was also the winner of the 2008 Golden 13 Essay Contest sponsored by the US Navy and the Tavis Smiley Foundation.

“Kymberli is warm, engaging, ambitious and thoughtful. I know for sure she will return to her community after college and create programs for youth,” said Vonda Paige, executive director of the Tavis Smiley Foundation.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Foundation, founder Travis Smiley decided to not only honor teens in his program but also individuals who demonstrate youth leadership.
